INFANTILE PARALYSIS.
THE WELLINGTON OUTBREAK. NINE OASES IN LAST TWO DAYS. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 8. Oases of infantile paralysis continue to be leported. There have been nine in the last two days. The Health Department has issued a statement deprecating the removing of childicn on the ground that it is much more likely to spread the disease. It recommends parents to keep them out of public places and crowds, and expects the epidemic to pass away in a short time. Adults are rarely attacked, but are liable to act as carriers. OASES IN WANGANDX ONE PROVES FATAL. (Pee United Press Association.) WANGANUI, January 8. Infantile paralysis has made its appearance in Wanganui during the last few days, despite precautions, while other diseases, such as diphtheria and scarlet fever, are also fairly prevalent, the majority of cases being amongst children. The city was comparatively speaking, fairly immune from diseases last year, but, as usual, with the arrival of the intense heat, an increased number of infectious complaints has been notified to the city inspector. Of the two cases of paralysis reported, the first was located at Gonville on January 5, and the second at Duriehill yesterday. In the first instance the sufferer (a little girl aged two years and nine months, who came from Wellington with her parents, and was staying with relatives in Wanganui) has passed away; the other case, which concerns a lad of about eight years is not regarded as being serious, and the patient is reported to be much brighter.
