THE ALLIED NOTE. PROTESTS FROM GERMAN PRESS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, January 6. The Allied Note regarding Cologne has evoked a chorus of protests from the press. Dr Marx’s organ, Germania, says: “The Note seriously threatens to destroy the mutual confidence of the nations, which recently has been reviving.” The Berliner Tageblatt says; “The Gorman people should unanimously reject this monstrous attempt to indefinitely subject a population of 2,000,000 people to foreign domination. ” The Monarchist organ, Kreuz Zextung, states: “The real reason for tho nonevacuution is that Great Britain needs tho support of Franco for an extra-European policy, and will therefore give France a free hand in tho Rhine districts.” —A. and N.Z. Cable. GERMANY’S REPLY. PROTEST AGAINST ALLIED ACTION. BERLIN, January 6. (Received January 7, at 9.20 n.md The German reply to tho Allies’ Note has been delivered to the Ambassadors. The text will be published on Thursday. It protests against the non-evacuation of Cologne, and maintains that even if there have been minor failures to carry efut tho disarmament clauses of tho Versailles Treaty (which has not been proved and is not admitted by Germany) the Allies would still be unjustified in their action, since the main fact of compliance remains unaltered.—A. and N.Z. Cable. FINANCE MINISTERS’ CONFERENCE. INTER-ALLIED DEBTS. CERTAIN TO BE DISCUSSED, LONDON, January 6. Mr Winston Churchill and Sir Otto Niemeyer (Controller of Finance) have loft for Paris to attend tho Conference of Allied Finance Ministers. Though inter-AUied debts do not figure in the agenda, they dwarf everything else in. importance, and they will certainly bo unofficially discussed.—Reuter. Mr Churchill, in an interview, said the Financial Conference would last 10 days. Ho added that he did not expect a hard task.—Sydney Sun Cable.
