A motion for a new trial has been filed on behalf of Dr Henry Dundafi Mackenzie In respect to the action in which Mrs Lawrence, of Hamilton, was awarded £2OOO damages. The grounds of the motion are that the verdict was against the weight of the evidence, that the damages were excessive, and that the judge misdirected the jury. WELLINGTON, August 19. The Winter Show returned a profit of about £I2OO, which is considered very satisfactory for a first attempt. CHRISTCHURCH, August 10. William Gordon Hutchison, advertising agent, was charged in the Supreme Court this morning with stealing a bicycle valued at £B. After hearing the evidence the jury returned a verdict of not guilty. TIMARTT, August 19. At the Magistrate’s Court William Fraser Park, schoolmaster at St. Andrews, aged 44 years, was charged with that at St. Andrews yesterday he did indecently assault another mule. The police asked for a remand till August 27, stating that further cases were pending. Bail was refused.
