FIGHT TO THE DEATH.

SPOTTED CATS AT THE-ZOO. A fight between two - American spotted cats took ■ place at the London Zoo a few weeks ago, resulting in the death of one of the pair. The animals were mated ins November last, and had lived happily to-' gether until the quarrel occurred. , A' thunderstorm was in progress at the time and it is thought that this may have upset them. On the other hand, jealousy,, may have been responsible, for another male had just been moved into an adjoining cage. ~ Although the two males could not see one another, owing to the wooden partition, they would of course, sense each other’s presence. When the keeper visited the cage on the morning following the fight he found the female cab dying of terrible wounds. Since the death of his mate, the male has become strangely sobered, and ia evidently grieving his loss.
