GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. Early in September next the -Caversham Presbyterians will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary, or golden jubilee, and in commemoration of such an event they are making great preparations in order to do justice to the occasion. An interesting booklet is being published recording the history of the church, and it will be interspersed with photos which will be of great value in years to come. A jubilee fund is being inaugurated, and thanks offerings will bo receiveed towards the building of a new Sabbath school, which is urgently needed. Already a substantial sum has been promised from one donor. On Saturday afternoon, September 6, the celebrations will be commenced with a conversazione as a means of a happy re-union of old and nrosont members. The Sunday services will be conducted in the morning by the Rev. Dr Wardcll, and in the evening by tho Rev. D. Dutton. On the Monday evening following an old-time tea meeting or “soiree” will bo held. THE EXHIBITION HIGHWAY. TO THE EDITOR. Sin,—The Mayor’s statement that Logan Park will cost £BO,OCO is likely to do as much harm as his previous slip regarding the Exhibition, and,,if allowed to go unchallenged, is the very thing to kill tho vote, by causing some ratepayers to take the narrow view. The loan tor the highway, if carried, will mean tiro expenditure of money on improvements in that part of the city which haa been most neglected—roads, tramways, drainage, flood area, etc., and the removal of unsightly, insanitary buildings. The approach to tho city by rail or water must shock tho visitor who casts his eye in tho direction of Pelichet Bay. The ratepayers must recognise that to vote in favour of the loan means not only making a success of the Logan Park scheme and the Exhibition, but the improvement of the city and the increase in value of the property held not simply by the ratepayers in that locality but that of the council and the reclaimed ground held in their interests by the Harbour Board, etc. Ihose led to vote against the loan will oppose their own and the city’s interests. It la high time the council went to work in earnest in this matter.—l am. etc. T. De Spong.
