JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. GREAT GATHERING AT TOWN HALL. (Per United Bbess Association.) WELLINGTON. February 26. Many hundreds were unable to obtaip admission to the Town Hall to-night, when a great gathering assembled to do honour to Archbishop Redwood, whose golden jubilee is being celebrated. There was a remarkable demonstration of enthusiasm. Archbishop O’Shea, of Wellington, presided. He said the people had assembled in their thousands to do honour to tho venerable central figure of tho great demonstrations which had taken place in Wellington. 'file Rev. Father Gilbert said that besides a congratulatory autographed letter from tho Pope his Grace had received a large number of messages from all parts of the world. Many apologies were received from those unable to be present, including the Gover-nor-General, Dr Sprott (Anglican bishop), the Rev. James Paterson (a very old friend of his Grace), and the Chancellor of the University of New Zealand. Addresses were presented from the Hierarchy in Australia, episcopal bishops, priests, laity, the Hibernian Society, old settlers, and others. Archbishop Redwood, who was received with thunderous applause when he rose to reply, was visibly affected by the warmth of the reception, and it was several minutes before he could speak. He returned grateful thanks for tho token of affection of his many friends.
