LOSS OF THE DIXMUDE
REMARKABLE DISCLOSURES. INSTABILITY FEARED BY COMMANDER. AuosUiion—l3 y Telegraph—Copyright PARIS, January 13. The newspapers contain remarkable disclosures regarding the warnings given to his superiors by the commander of the Dixmude. Before the fatal voyage he made a report criticising the vessel’s design and build. He stated that she lacked stability owing to her excessive length and the inadequacy of her engine power. She frequently showed a tendency to dip by the nose. Continuing, the commander stated that on returning from a recent cruise he found a large rent in one of the balloonets, and he added that if such a thing happened in really bad weather, the airship would immediately dip, and no human power would be able to prevent her from dropping into the sea and disappearing with out leaving a trace.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
