THE WAIMANA SENSATION', USE OF CHEMICALS ALLEGED. (Pfr United Press Association.) WHAKATANE, December 18. William George Wright was charged in the Police Court with wounding a mare at Vtaimana bv - means of corrosive chemicals. Evidence was given to the effect that the mare was found with an eye injured and aleeding on November 10, and on December I a mare, left at Taneatua, was missing ifter (ho pictures and was found five miles (way on Sunday, staggering and bleeding, iho evidence showed that on November .9 two impounded horses were found inured. one being dead and the other, dying. \ watch was kept on the pound, and ao■used war, seen riding past on the evening >f December 1 leading a mare which was ater identified as the one which was inured in the Waimana Gorge. Several other icrses had been wounded in the pound durng the last few mouths. One had tho tenions of (he hook severer] and had to bo detroyed. On April 7 accused was found in the louud paddock at 1.30 a.m. Evidence was given as to the finding of bemicals at the residence of accused similar o those believed to be responsible for the njuries. Accused pleaded not guilty and was comnitted for trial at the Supreme Court t Gisborne.
