Health authorities throughout the country blame shoddy and ill-fitting boots for bronchitis, neuralgia, pneumonia, kidney troubles, neurasthenia, sciatica, and consumption. An expert at Bury declared that 30 per cent, of the illnesses among children and 20 per cent, of those suffered by adults were due to bad boots. At Plymouth 30 per cent, of the illness was attributable to the same cause. An authority at Birmingham says that damp feet reduces the resistance to chills and bronchitis.
