iFeom Odb Own correspondent.) MIDDLEMARCH, June 24. The Strath-Taieri A. and P. Society held iis annual smoke concert on Friday last. The evening, though very cold, was bright and dry overhead, and there was a l a G? 8 attendance. About 8.30 the chairman (Mr Thos. Ross) opened the concert with the toast of “His Majesty the King.” The chairman then proceeded with a few appropriate remarks, stating that he was very pjeased to see such a large gathering of members. The following toasts were honoured during the evening; —“The , Army and Navy (proposed by Mr E. Leslie and responded to by Messrs Hoggans, G. Fisher, and li Brown); “The A. and P. Society” (proposed by Mr A. Carruthers and responded toby Messrs "VV. D. Mason and D. J.l'Bae); 'Kindred Societies” (proposed by Mr G. Robertson and responded to by Messrs Gordon Horn and W. Williams); “The Ladies (proposed by Mr W. Moynihan, sen.); “Local Sports” (proposed by Mr E. J. Docherty); “The Visitors” (proposed by Mr T. Carruthers); and “The Chairman” (proposed by Mr Angus M'lvor). At intervals songs were given by Messrs D. M‘Rae, Hutton, Leslie, Bert .Tones. W. Williams, a humorous recitation by Mr J. Milns, and reels and jigs by the Cameron Bros., assisted by Mr George Peat. A community sing went willingly for some time, and was followed by some good music rendered by the Cameron Bros, on a violin and piano. The trophies awarded at the show were presented. The winners wore as follows: Most points in cattle and sheep, Mr W. Moynihan; most points in outside exhibits, Mr AV. Moynihan; most points inside the hall, Miss L. Tisdall; most points in draught horses, Mr Robert Tisdall.
