Y.M.C.A.

BAG DAY. The Y.M.C.A. hag day was continued on Saturday morning, when practically all the parcels left over from the previous day were disposed of from the lorry at the corner, of Dowling and Princes street. A person clad in the symbolical cap and bells lay in wait and pounced upon any individual who happened to pass his lair, and by means of a winning smile and a coaxing voice usually managed to extort a shilling or two from each of his victims, giving in return for every shilling a ticket which entitled the owner to a “mystery bag.” GYMNASTIC DISPLAY. On Saturday flight the gymnasium of the Y.M.C.A., Moray place, was an animated scene, when the repeated programme of the annual circus and display was witnessed by a large and appreciative audience. The proceedings were opened with the grand march, in which the members who took part appeared at- one time on tho floor, and the popularity of fancy costumes made this an.. item of considerable interest. The ■items then comprised exhibitions by all the ■different classes of ladies, men, girls, and boys in' figure marching, rings, horse, clubs, parallel bars, wands, floor exercises, and dancing steps respectively. The skill of the leaders in advanced work on horizontal bar, parallel bars, and Roman rings, was heartily applauded. Messrs Townsend and Orr contributed a humorous item, taking the form of a boxing bout, in which the contestants were first placed in barrels, which were set about an arm’s length apart. A most entertaining and clever exhibition of tumbling and comedy acrobatics was given by Messrs Keesing, Calder, and Hill. The success. of the evening wsa enhanced by the assistance of Mr Gordon Henderson in solos, Misses Annie More and Irving M‘Gregor in dances, and Mr Tamaio Paike in hakas. In consequence of the bod weather tho repetition of the performance has been indefinitely postponed.
