RIOTING IN AMRITSAR

DOUBLED SALT TAX RESENTED

More rioting occurred at Amritsar, also incendiarism. Fifty were wounded. Many arrests were made and the municipality has asked for extra police. The doubled salt tax remains the most prominent political problem. Several members of the Legislatures have resigne ' since the Viceroy’s osntification. The democratic party apealed to the Viceroy to call; a ■ special session of the Legisla tures to pass a resolution asking his Majesty in Council to disallow the doubled salt tax.
