Take 1 onion, 1 turnip, t carrot, 2 potatoes, l 4 pints hot water. 1 dessertspoonful of Marmite, 2ozs. butter, 1 tablespoonful flour; seasoning if necessary. METHOD—SIice the vegetables finely. Melt the bulter inastewpan, add the vegetables, and stir them over.the fire for ten minutes, until nicely browned. Add the flour, and brown also. Dissolve the Marmite in the hot water, and add gradually to the fried vegetables. Let the whole simmer for about half-an-hour,' or until the vegetables are tender, Pass the soup through the sieve, add more seasoning, if necessary, and reboil before serving.
