It appears that many of tho Otago miners go to Melbourne, lose their money, and then return to Otago in search of more. The subjoined is from the Aryit s. No less than three cases of felony had lo bo abandoned at the City Court yesterday morning in consequence of tho non-appearance of the prosecutors. / In several cases lately the prosecutors have been returned diggers from New Zealand, and, instead of remaining in the colony to punish their depredators, they have returned to the former place, taking quietly the losses of considerable sums of money. It is stated in the annual report of the Union Bank that the loss sustained by tho defalcation of tho clerk (Brutton) who ran away from Otago was £BOO. Thatcher’s concert on Saturday drew a more crowded audience even than usual. . . . Thatcher keeps on increasing his budget- of local songs —he must have produced a volume of them already. . . .
