The Chess Championship Tournament was continued to-day. Following is a summary of 1 ninth round: Piokett beat Koiliiig; Stevens von from Evans on tune; Hioks beat Miller; Davies boat Roberts. _ . Roberta v. Davies.—Roberts Adopted the Queen’s Pawns game, which developed very evenly. 'Davies at move 13 advanced a pawn to king’s’ ' fourth- ; _This oommenced a aeries of exchanges which gave him command of the centre of "the board. Roberta played carefully; and the game esemed to be developing into a drawn position, when Roberta offered an exchange of queens in such a way that ho was left-rook down. Roberts resigned on the forty-fourth move, Hicks v. Miller. —Miller played the French defence, and soon took charge of the attacks. Hicks changed off pieces and got a very even game. Later t Miller allowed Hicks to fork king and pawn, winning the latter. ‘Miller allowed a second pawn to go, ahd Hicks in the end of the game .queened a pawn and won. ' .... Stevens v. Evans.—This was a Falkbeer Counter. From it Evans got a good attack, which, failed for _ want'of queen side pieces, which Were quite undeveloped, -As tire gome progressed Stevdns improved his gosition, and got a good, attack. Evans ad to play carefully to keep oven, and in doing so he failed to keep within the time limit, and lost the game. Picketj:, v - Kelling.—Pickett again adopted the English game and got a;good ■ opening. In. a series of exchanges in the Vontest for bishop’s, file Pickett obtained two pawns against one orr queens wing. He ..-played carefully, and forced exchanges to retain a passed pawn. On queen knight’s second he offered and Kelling accepted an exchange of queens. Pickett, by good play won an interesting game. TENTH ROUND. .In the tenth round Connell drew with Dunlop, Evans drew with Miller, Pickett beat Howard, Kelling beat Stevens (with three gAmes unfinislied). The position of players is: Dunlop eight wins, Davies seven and one to play, Uyies six and ahaif and two to play, bevenie six and three to play, Hioks six and one to play. Miller four and a-hoff, Pickett four and a-half, Grierson four and /a-half and -oae td play, Kelling four and one to play, Roberta three and a-half and one to play, Stevens three, "Howard three, Evans two and a-half, Connell' - two. ' ‘ r \ : OhnneJi v. Dunlop.—This was Ruy Lopez gafile. Dunlop worßed up an attack on the queen side, but Donned by exchanging' minor pieces broke the force ,of "'the v attack. Dunlop g&t a passed queen rooks pawn, , and by exchanges gave Oonneii two sets' of doubled pawns. The end of the game was keenly contested, and ended'in-a draw, each of the players being able to queen hie sole remaining pawn. Evans v. Miller.—The'latter adopted .the Karo Konm Evans sought to'establish a knight at kings fifth, but Miller exchanged lor a bishop. Evans worked up a good position, but .Miller sot up a compact defence. Exchanges were made, and a very even end game followed. A draw was -agreed upon on the 57th move.. : . ' . / Howard v. Piokett.—This was a Sicilian game,'Pickett adopting the Fisnohetto development for both, bishops. ■ Howard was wording up «n attack. ‘Later i Pickett tewffi kings pawn and Howard seeking an attack left several pieces to be. captured. Ho come out a piece do&m. and after an exciting, end game Pickett passed the centre'pawn' which won the game fori him. r ■ Kelling v. Stevens.—Kelling opened with Ponziann ' Stevens _ soon got an . attack oh Kelling’s castled king. It was premature, and as Steyena brought forward, the necessary supports, Kelling. won a pawn and a strong position on the queen’s wing. The latter was able to repel Stevens’s attack, forcing an exchange “of rooks and minor pieces, and Kelling’s queen, side trafck proving irresistible, Stevens resigned. (
