As president of the Sir Arthur Pearson memorial fund, Lady Pearson to the British dominions for aid for the permanent endowment of all the charities for which Sir Arthur laboured during his lifetime. A special appeal is made to editors of newspapers to publish the appeal, and, if possible, to open local subscription lists. Agents have been appointed in the various dominions, to whom subscriptions should bo remitted. The New Zealand agent is Mr Clutha Mackenzie, M.P., Auckland.— Reuter. LONDON, January 2. * The bankers clearing-house turnover for 1921 totalled £34,930,000,000, a decrease of £4,088,000,000 compared with the record year of 1920, but .it exceeds any year prior to 1920, and is £6,515,000,000 above the turnover for 1919. Mr J. O’Grady, M.P., who contracted smallpox, has just returned .from Russia, where he directed the international trade union relief work.—A. and N.Z, Cable.
