Grain traders generally express great satisfaction ot tho way in which tho committee during the past six years marketed Australian wheat, which has been sold to much greater advantage than in the cose of any other wheat-selling country., Tho committee’s work last >sear, during which it sold 3,000,000. tons, has been greatly assisted by having the chartering in its’ own hands.—-A. and N.Z. Cable. TIMARU WOOL SALE. (Per UMted Prbss Association.) ■ ! TIMARU, January 3. Tha first wool sale was held to-day, when nearly 10,000 bales were offered. There was a full bench of buyers from 1 all quarters, and bidding was spirited. The market showed a healthier tone compared with recent sales. Prices for three-quarterbred and scouring wools improved. Merinos and best halfbreds were'on a par with recent sales. About 5 per cent, of the total was pasted. Average quality price? were:—Merinos, 13d to 14Jd; 11 Jd; coarse, 9d to lOd; fins crossbred, 6Jd to 8d ; medium, 5d to 6d;, coarse, 4d to Id. Pieces sold. well.
