PORT CHALMERS ROWING CLUB.

The annual meeting of this club, which was held yesterday evening, was presided over by Mr Lightbourne (vice-president), who apologised for the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr J. M. Stevenson). There was a good attendance of members. The annual report showed that the past season had been a very successful one in every respect. The credit balance this year was £6l 15s lOd, being some £l6 better than it was at the last annual meeting. Several large accounts were paid during the season; ;n fact, one account- for oars and sculls took the whole of last year’s balance. Against this was received £95 Is lid in prize-money from the various regattas, this placing tlio club in a strong position financially. The practice boats required the usual minor repairs to make them fit for the coming season. As regarded the racing boats, the four-oared boat which was purchased last year was in perfect condition. They had ordered a double sculler and a pair-oared boat from Melbourne, and these were to be delivered by the end of November. The racing plant would thus be sufficient for all requirements. The only club race rowed was for the President Fours, the"- winning crew being;—J. Glengarry (str.), H. Pritchard (3), G. Bootten (2), J. Brennan (bow). The annual social was hold lust month in the Druids’ Hall, and proved very enjoyable. On behalf of the Otago Rowing Association, Mr M. Priest presented the club with -the various trophies won during the season. These comprised Premiership Shield, Senior Cup, Junior Cup, Maiden Cup, White Memorial Trophy, and the Renwicfe- Cup. As would bo seen from this list,, the club had the distinction of winning every cup and trophy which the association has for competition. In the absence of the president (Mr J. M‘D. -Stevenson) Mr J. Collier presented the club trophies, and also made a presentation to each of the three coxswains. Messrs A. Simmonds and J, Colthorpe deserved to be complimented on the manner in which they carried out their duties as M.C.’s. The -committee desired to express its regret at the loss of their excaptain, Mr J. Glengarry, who was an untiring worker in the interests of the club, and never missed an opportunity of assisting in its progress. On the eve of his departure a small presentation was tendered to himself and family as a mark of the esteem in which they were held by all the club members. This opportunity was taken of wishing him every success in his new sphere of life. The crews representing tl)o club at the various regattas met with considerable success. Special mention should be made of the maiden crew, who were successful in winning five races for as many starts. This crew journeyed to Christchurch, and had the honour of winning a double event—Maiden and Junior Fours. Mr R. Thompson, who coached them, deserved every’ credit. The membership totalled 106 -52 active, 46 honorary, and eight life-members. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, said the balance sheet was exceedingly satisfactory. They had a credit balance to start this season with, but a« two new boats had been ordered members should not delay payment of their contributions. The members should endeavour to restore the club's rowing prestige of a few years ago. The crows did well last season, especially the maiden crow, who won the Junior Championship at Christchurch, and would probably have won the Seniors at Queenstown had thev been entered and the race rowed. Mr \V. Brailev also complimented the club on its satisfactory balance sheet, and hoped the incoming season would bo very successful. The report, and balance sheet were ndonted. The election of officers resulted thus: Mr J. M. Stevenson, president- Mr H. O. Haggitt and Mr J. B. Parker, added to list of vice-presidents: Mr R. Thompson, captain; Mr J. Solomon, deputy-captain : Mr T. Mackie, secretary; Mr L. Nelson, assistant secretary; Messrs J. Colthorpe. A. Simmonds, J. Nelson, S. Carey. H. Parsons, and Matheson, committee: Messrs Sto'omon, R.
