NEW ZEALAND RUGBY UNION
INTERNAL TROUBLES. PRESIDENTS THREAT TO RESIGN. ■ WELLINGTON, September 1,3. Something approaching a crisis has been reached through the threat of Mr M‘Leod, president of the New Zealand R-ugby Union, to resign owing to his not being a delegate to the conference with the South African and New South Wales delegates on the general condition of the game. Correspondence was tabled at to-night’e meeting of the Management Committee. The chairman (Mr Slade) wrote Mr M'Lcod offering him the presidency of the conference, without right to participate in the deliberations. _ Mr M'Lood replied saying he would resign if the decision was not reversed. Mr Slade replied, saying that the president had a misconception of his duties, and adding that the delegates should be Messis Slade, Howe, and Frost, the lastnamed being elected so as to be spokesman to the Auckland proposal to amend the rules. Mr M'Leod sent a lengthy reply denying the suggestion of interfering in the management, and quoting his experience and international representation of the game as qualifying him to have a seat as a delegate. The Canterbury and Auckland Unions wrote supporting Mr M'Leod. Mr Slade said ho offered to withdraw from the conference in favour of Mr M'Leod, but that did not suit the latter, whose trouble was that ho had not been nominated.
The. discussion .which followed was favour, able to the action of the Management Com. mittee.
It was decided to receive Mr M‘Lead’s letter.
