The Government is offering to back a voluntary wheat pool to the extent of 4s per bushel. The Farmers’ Party ia pressing for a compulsory pool. THE BASIC WAGE. SYDNEY, September 13. Representatives of some of the industrial concema*in the State asked the Board of Trade to fix the basic wage at not more than £4 per week. A decision is expected on October 8. COCKATOO DOCK. It was stated in the Federal Arbitration Court that the 44-hour week at Cockatoo Dock involved an extra cost of £70,000 a year, AORANGI REFLOATED. SYDNEY, September 13. News has reached Sydney that the steamer Aorangi, formerly a New Zealand trader, which was sunk" in Holm Sound, for war purposes, has been refloated and is doing duty as .a hulk. REGISTRATION OF BULLS. ADELAIDE, September 13. (Received Sept. 13. at 9.25 p.m.) The State Treasurer announced at the Agricultural Conference that the Government had decided to legislate to provide for the annual registration of all bulls. “PUSSYFOOT” JOHNSON’S MISSION. ADELAIDE, September 13. (Received Sept. 13. at 9.26 p.m.) Mr “Pussyfoot” Johnson has arrived in order to study prohibition prospects in Australia. He says that if the United States remains dry Great Britain will be dry by 1930.
