COLERIDGE POWER HOUSE

FOUNDATIONS SAID TO BE DEFECTIVE. . (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, September 10. For some time past it has been suspected that there was a defect in tho foundations of tho Lake Coleridge power house, and it is now stated, though not officially, that this defect has developed to such an extent that it may delay-the placing in commis’eion of the mew pipeline, and that it may even affect the existing line. Mr L. Birks, the head of the, department is at present in Australia on holiday, but Mr F. T. Kissell, who is acting in his stead, will leave for Christchurch by to-night’s steamer, and will proceed to Lake Coleridge to see exactly what the position is. Messrs Wright and Salmon, the contractors for some of the plant at the power house, are also going south _by to-night’s steamer, and will proceed to Lake Coleridge. .
