PORTOBELLO ROAD BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Portobello Road Board was held in the Coronation Hall, Portobello, yesterday afternoon, and was attended' by Messrs H. Allan, G. F. Bowley, J. Sawle, C. Hall, S. Hinkley, W. Rowlands, D. Hughes, and S. M. Muir. Mr R. D. Veitoh, district telegraph engineer. wrote stating the department could not accept any liability for alleged damage to a bridge at Anderson Bay, as the lorry credited with causing the damage was no heavier than the milk, wagon which crossed it daily, without taking the precaution which was taken in the case of the lorry for which bluegum planking was put down.— Received. Mr L. O. Beal wrote asking the board to knap down some stone carted on the road, between the Catholic Orphanage and the previously metalled portion of the road running northward.—Referred to members of subdivision. The Department Internal Affairs forwarded Gazette notice of increased fee* payable by local authorities to the Audit Office for arbitrations, special and ordinary audits.—Received. • The Deputy Public Trustee supplied details pertaining to the exemption of roads from the width provisions of section 117 of the Public Works Act. 1908. as applying to subdivision of sections in Dunoon township, at Broad Bay.—Received; no further action to be taken until the road was vested in the board. Mr O. 15. Ridley, honorary secretary Coronation Hall. Portobello, submitted for approval a revised scale of hall charges, and asked that a caretaker be appointed at a remuneration of £2O per annum.—Approved. ' ’ Mr C. J.
