DUNDAS STREET METHODIST CHURCH

The forty-third anniversary of the above church was further celebrated last night by_ a concert and conversazione, held in the" school hall. There was a large attendance, over which the Rev. W. J. Oxbrow presided.. The annual report, which was read by the secretary (Mr C. W. Wilkirson) stated that during the year there had been an increase in membership, and the attendances at the Sunday services had been very satisfactory. Several losses by death were noted, tribute be:rjg paid to tho work and example of those who had been promoted to their reward. Laudatory reference was made to the assistance of the choir in the service of prvtise. The Sunday School was progressing well, under the superintendence of Messrs Yv\ M. Roberts and C. W. Wilkinson. Interest in the Young Women's Bible Class had been well maintained, and the Young Men's Bible Class was doing good woTk. The church income for tho year was £354 17s 6a, and the expenditure £339 0s lOd, leaving a credit balance of £15 16s Sd. The trust account showed a credit balance of £13 18s Id. The total income foe the year was £603 4s 4d. Three years ago a committee was appointed to devise means for reducing the debt of £600 still hanging over the church after large sums had been spent on improving the church property, and as a result of a special effort the slim of £290 10s 6d was now in h-J7i3 towards the liquidation of the debt. During the evening the church choir, under the conductorship of Mr P. H. Young, sang with expression the glees "The Silent Tide," "Tho Hour of Softened Splendour." and " The Carnival." Th'e following items were also supplied to the evident satisfaction of the audience, As evidenced by numerous encores: —Songs—Miss A. Wilkinson and Messrs W. Harrison, W. E. Crewes, and L. Borrow; duet,' Messrs W. Harrison and W. E. Crewes; pianoforte duet, Messrs G. Wilkinson and P. Palmer; elocutionary item, Miss H. Osborn; 'cello solo Mr R. Palmer. Mr G. Wilkinson accompanied the singers tastefully. At the close of the concert refreshments were handed round, and those present engaged in conversation.
