OCEAN BEACH DOMAIN BOARD
A special mooting of the Ocean Beafili Domain Board, hold yesterday afternoon, was attended by Mean's J. H. HaJicock (chairman), J. B. Shaoklock, I. Green, J. B. Taverner, and J. Dove. Accounts amounting to £50 lis Id were passed for payment. The chairman reported a credit balance of £263 9s 9d, The Chairman said tJiat plans and specifications of pile-driving at St. Clair were before thorn, as submitted by the city engineer, and also Mr Furkert's report. Mr M'Curdie had drawn np hie plans and specifications in accordance with the terms of Mr Furkert's recommendations. No work they ooti'ld do would be paid for by the department unless approved by the department's engineer. Mr Shaoklock said they could not expect to get any help from the Government unless they stuck to Mr Furkert's recommendations. The Chairman explained that, the Government was paying a £ for £ subsidy only up to £200. That provided l for £400, but Mr Furkert estimated that the work he Suggested would cost £700. He had called them together ohiefly to consider the matter of fiua.noe. Ho thought at least ICO piles would lxs required. He suggested that alternative tenders bo called for 'local wood and for Australian hardwood. Once they laiew the exact amount required they could then approach the contributing bodies concerned. After discussion the clerk was instructed to call for alternative tenders for the erection of groynes of bluegum or; Australian hardwood; tenders to bo returnable in two weeks, the department to be notified.
