BERLIN, December 15. Several newspapers warmly comment on M. Clemenceau's conference in London. They fear that a new Entente is being formed, and declare that M. Qemenceau is striving to establish a Western European alliance against Germany. Such an alliance, it is argued, would be frightful, and penal to the whole world.— Reuter.

PARIS, December 15,
Fire destroyed the Palace of Compiegne, which was the headquarters of the French General Staff in 1917-18. The damage amounts to £80,000, but, fortunately, the priceless and historic furniture had been removed during the war and had not yet been returned to the palace.—A. af.'d N.Z. Cable.
WASHINGTON, December 15
War-time prohibition has been held to be constitutional according to the United States Supreme Court. Prohibition will accordingly be effective until the constitutional amendment making prohibition permanent becomes operative. This finding ends the recent "wet" spell.—A. and N.Z. Cable.
