OTAGO HARBOUR BOARD.

An ordinary meeting of the Otago Harbour Board was Hold yesterday afternoon, and was attended by Messrs W. Wilkinson (chairman), Tapley, Loudon, Sundstrum, Dickson, M.P., Moller, Walker, Campbell, Tait, Russell, Galbraith, Larnach, and Mitchell. The 'bank books showed that thero was a credit balance of £11,196. Accounts amounting to £5329 were passed for payment The sub-committee appointed in re freezing works recommended : That tenders be invited for a. period of 14 years, from April 2, 1919 (the six months' notice to be eliminated) for the lease of the land, buildings, and plant, the buildings and plant to be put into such condition and maintained as would fully comply with the requirements of the Government department, underwriters, and the approral of the board's engineer; the committee to proposo conditions and call for .tenders* That three months' notice be_ given- to Mr • Watson that it is the intention of the board to close the works on the expiration of his lease, provided the board did not provide for a now lease prior to April 1, 1919.—'Ike report was adopted. TENDEE3 FOB A2TNXTAL SUPPLIES. The Resident Engineer recommended as under, with regard to tenders for annual supplies:—Supply of timber: X recommend that timber for 1919 be bought in open market. Supply of coal (Dunedin): The , tender of the Westport Coal Company being the lowest, I recommend its acceptance Supply of coal (Port. Chalmers): .The tender of Messrs John Mill and Co., being the lowest, I recommend its acceptance. Supply of benzine and kerosene: Hie board, having supplies of benzine and kerosene sufficient for the needs of the pilot launch, lower and upper harbour lighting, until April 30 1919, I recommend that tenders be called again at a later dato. Supply of cement: I recommend that the tender of the Milburn Lime and Cement Company be accepted Supply of horses, drays, and drivers (Dunedin): The tender of Messrs E. and J. M Kewen being the lowest, I reoommend its acceptance. Supply of horses, vehicles, and drivers (Dunedin); Messrs Spencer and Dunklcy had the contract fo 1918. The prices quoted by them lor 1919 are the same as for 1918, and I recommend the acceptance of their tender. Supply of lubricating and cylinder ofl. (two years): I recommend the acceptance of the Vacuum Oil Company's alternative tender—i.e., ruling list prices at date of delivery, less a discount of 10 per cent. Supply of cartage (Port Chalmers): I recommend that the tender of .C. Stevenson be accepted.—-Re-agreed to. BEPOBT. . The following is a summary of the Standing Committee's report:— The New Zealand Society of Civil Engineers, Wellington), advised that theannual meeting was to bo held at Auckland from February 18 to February 22, and asked that facilities be grafted for the resident engineer's attendance.—Mr Wilkie to attend meeting, and facilities to be granted. W. Scoular and Co. wrote advising closing of their stores during Christmas and Now Year holidays, and asking thai goods arriving for diem during that time be exempt, from storage.—Declined.

The Town Clerk wrote acknowledging the board's decision in re Lake Logan, and advised that no reduction could be made in the charge for the Vulcan's power.—Received.

The board then adjourned till January 31,
