WESTERN TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD.

The first meetng of the newly-elected hoard—Messrs J. G W r ylie, D. Ford, Jas. Miller, W. G. Reid, and R. A. Kempshell— was held yesterday. Mr Mitchell was elected chairman end Mr Kempshell deputychairman.

The foreman, reported that tho following drains had been cleaned since last meeting:—Lake Ascog drain, Kempshell's drain, old pump drain, from pump to Lee Creek, Wain's drain, Lake drain from pump to Henley road, " A " drain from Lake bridge to Poplar drain, about 25 chains of Kirk's drain from Otokia road towards Momona. The last flood in the contour- channel had damaged about three chains of the bank near the boundary between Scott's and Kempshell's: Dams had been put' in in Poplar drain, Bull's Creek, and Pump drain, Berkley. Repairs had been carried out to Robinson's fences and banks, and the contour and Lee Creek banks. A channel had been made in Lee Creek, from the mouth to Tnomson's.—The drainage referred to in contour banks to be attended to.

Mr Mann (surfaceman) reported that repairs were necessary to the contour bank in Reid's, on Wylie's Creek diversion; in Dolierty's, and tho West Taieri Church property. Tho weir in Mr M'Donald's had washed out round tho end of the concrete. The drain for the Wylie's Creek water supply, and Wylie's Creek diversion required cleaning out.—lt was decided to give these v.orks attention.

In connection with drainage improvements at Berkley, the Railway Department notified that it had no objections to offer to (a) blocking across the borrow pits near Bull Creek, or (b) blocking across the borrow pits and putting in sluice boxes, provided tho work was done under the supervision of tho Inspector of Permanent Way (Mr Ray).—Resolved to place the dams in. The Bruce County Clerk notified that Cr Driver and the county inspector would act with the board's representatives in the matter of taking out willows on the Waipori River. —Tlio chairman and Or Kempshell to represent the board in the work. An application from Mr J. Drennan for permission to remove willows from River bank at Wylie's (Outram) was declined, as willows could be obtained lower down the river if ncccssary. Tho chairman and Mr Wylie were instructed to arrange with settlors regarding tho removal of gravel from the old Lee Creek bed.

Tho Chairman reported on the matter of a d?ain through section 21, block IV, Maungatua survey district, occupied by Mr Jchn Carruthers. —Held over till next meeting.

Accounts totalling £1639 15s 9d wero passed for payment.

Tho foreman reported on a complaint •regarding a leakage under the contour channel bank. He considered that the spot complained of was a basin, and that the drainage gathered there, The bank was low at this point.—lt was resolved to raiso it to tho original height. In connection with tho drain between Messrs G. MTLieod, F. Johnson, and W. H. Mitchell, tho last-named -wrote asking the width of the drain and that it be fenced to keep cows out of it. —Messrs Ford and Reid to wait on the writer.
