THE PRESS DELEGATES AT HOME.
TO I'H* EDITOR.
Sib,—l am reading with interest your pleasing articles on "The New Zealand Press Delegates at Home." Apart from these articles,, might I suggest that our local "delegate" (Mr George Fenwick) should favour us with a public lecture, or address, on his tour? I am certain it would d».-much to clarify our views on the war and especially concerning the forthcoming Fence Congress. It is interesting now to look back at former, delegations of a similar kind. In May, 1907, a. large number of British journalists visited Germany—on invitation— a representative of the Imperial German Foreign Office gavo them an address, m the course of which he said: lt Everywhere in the world where Groat Britain has brought any' country -under her -influence she has never suppressed the trade developments in other lands, as many nations have to their own detriment. You have always devoted your energies and labours to the opening up of the country's sources of production, bringing it nearer to civilisation ar ir P£ 0 £ ress - You have never excluded other States from territories under British influence, but allowed them to go along with you. This policy of yours is now celebrating one of its greatest triumphs in J'-gyPt. Gaming from such a source, this reads strangely m the present year of grace' I do trust-, however, that these true and wise words of a German statesman m<tv not be forgotten when the fate of the German colonies comes to be finally considered.—l arr L_ ot " ,c v W. C. MacGregor. Dunedin, December 19.
[The above letter has been referred to Mr Fenwick, who states that he has received numerous requests of a similar nature andl who expresses himself as prepared to comply with them after the holidays.—Ed
