POST OFFICE NOTICES.
Mails close at tho Chief Post Office, Duaedin, as under: — SUNDAY, DECEMBER 22.
For India, Colombo, Egypt, nnd the Bast (to connect with s.s. Dorset at Wellington) at 8 p.m., 'late fees at Railway Station on December 23, at 7.55 ajn.
MONDAY, DECEMBER 23.
For Australian States, Ceylon, Indift, China, Japan, Straite Sottlcment, %yp% South Africa, and the East, per e.e. "Waitomo. (Steamer eaile on. or about December 23).
From December 17 to January 11, 1919, mails will be despatched daily by tho Relief Exprose Train, leaving Dunedin for Christchurch at 11.15 a.m. North Island mails will connect with tho ferry, steamer at I<yttolton on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The mails will close at this office at 9.30 a.m. Late-fee letters 10 a.m. No late-fee letters can. be posted at the Railway Station for the Relief Express. From December 19 to January 9 inclusive daily mails will be despatched to HoHtika, G-roymouth, Westport, and Reefton. Correspondence for all neutral countries is subject to censorship.

—By the end of this year nearly 1.000,000 acres of woods in Great Britain will have boen felled for war purposes. It was estimated that 6.000,000 tons of timber would bo required in 1918.
