PEACE CELEBRATIONS. TO THS EDITOR.
Sir, —The outstanding idea of celebration or commemoration of peace in the community is a wild outburst of hilarity and unlicensed frivolity, instead of a fitting ceremonial of praise and thanksgiving to the Almighty for blessings showered on us and our Allies in giving us the victory over our enemies in the most colossal war tho world lias ever known.
May I appeal to the public generally for a more fitting celebration of this peace, on the day appointed, so that it may be a general thanksgiving day by the churches of all denominations. 1 would suggest a procession early in the day of tho clergy and choirs through the streets for a short time (headed by tlie principal bands, rendering tho <c Te Deum," "Peace, Perfect Peace," or such-like hymns), say to tho Town Hall steps, whore the clergy would gratify the devout feelings of the majority of those present by giving them a few addrepes suitable to the occasion, and where such hymns of praise and thanksgiving as they should appoint should bo sung, finishing up with the National Anthem. The day, thereafter, should bo one of general rejoicing, and the public would bo tho better pleased to view a trade display in the afternoon. A fine display of fireworks on tho Oval in the evening would be a fitting Gnale t.o such a thorough day of rejoicing.—l am, etc., R T.
