COURSING ASSOCIATION
Tlie monthly mooting of the Council of the National Coursing Association of Kew Zealand was held last night in the office oT the secretary (Mr H. Divers). The president (Mr B. >S. Irwin) occupied tho chair. Mr Eraser Smith, of Hamilton, one of vice-presidents, was welcomed. The Chairman said that a report had reached tho council from Australia covering tho proceeding of the conference held in Sydney on July 3, at which confcrenco an Australasian Union was formed. Tho only States still standing out were Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania. Tho arguments seemed to have been largely in favour of tho union. He considered that it- was only a question of time when tho other States would fall into line. The New Zealand Council was represented by Mr Martin Taylor, of Auckland. The union would do a good work. A number of dogs were always passing from Australia ami Kew Zealand, and without such a union complete record of the dogs could not bo very well kept. Besides, it was New Zealand's ambition to have an Australasian Waterloo held in the dominion, which would assist to popularise the sport.— The council expressed pleasure at tho formation of the union, and appreciation of Mr Taylor's services at thp meeting. Mr R. Coombes, of Sydney, chairman of tho conference, writing on July 10, mentioned that, the first Australasian Waterloo Gup would lx* run in Now South Wales in 1919. New Zealand's turn would como quickly. It was resolved to inform the Selwyn Club that the dog Safeguard was registered ; that if there was a dispute as to ownership tho disputants had their remedy, and that the Selwyn Committee did right in allowing tho dog to compcte under " n.s."
It wag intimated that the Southland Club had been disbanded.
It was resolved to point out to the Woodlands Club the inadvisability of allowing unregistered dogs to compete at any meeting.
It was resolved —"That the secretary write to tho Selwyn Club to ascertain if it intended to ask for the Waterloo next year, as recommended by the conference, and that, if not, applications bo called for same."
