DUNEDIN BURNS CLUB

The monthly musical and social gathering promoted by the Dunodin Bums Club was held last evening, there being a particularly largo attendance of _ members. Mr W. Brown (the new president) was formally installed in office by his predecessor, Mr W. B. M'Ewan. who stated that Mr Brown had been an active .member of the club ever since its establishment 27 years ago. lle_ had dono good work in the early days of its history, and had continued his efforts on its behalf ever pince. There could be no doubt that ho had worthilv earned tho honour that had fallen to 'his lot.—(Applause.) The now president took tho chair amidst loud applause, and in tho course of a brief address, brightened with touches of humour, referred to tho early days of the club, and traced its successful cateer up to the present time. A strong executive had, he said, been appointed, and ho viewed the coming year with great confidence, especially if the present audience was going to prove a criterion. Tho speaker added that tho meeting next month would take tho form of a social gathering.—(Applause.) The musical programme was then proceeded with, and it met with pronounced approval, encores lieing the invariable order of the evening. Those who contributed were; Songs—Miss A. Macrae. Mr J. Davidson. Miss Ruth Gale, Mr J. D. Seymour. Miss Annie Wilson. Miss N". Bovle. and Mr A. M'Leod: bagpipe selection. Pipemajor Grant; violin solo. Miss Bnird; humorous musical sketch. Mr A. H. Bunwell; Highland dance, Miss Jean Riddle; part songs, the choir (under Mr J. Paterson). The accompaniments \vero plavcd by Miss E. Wright.
