THE RAILWAYS. AN ADEQUATE SERVICE In view of the fact that more people are offering than some of the long-distance trains can conveniently carry, and as the day passenger trains are being only moderately filled, it has been arranged that passengers for main line stations between Sydney and Harden will be required to travel 'by the day trains. Passengers for branch line stations will be permitted to travel by the night mail trains leaving Sydney at night tune as usual. For the 24 hours ended at 7 a.m. on August 22, 15 goods trains arrived and 10 trams were despatched from Darling Harbour. General goods to the_ extent of 559 tons were received at Darling Harbour on a certain day, .and loaded and despatched without difficulty. There are ■ approximately 150 trucks loaded with wool at Darling Harbour, and a commencement was made to have this delivered, 268 bales being taken to the wool stores. Upwards of 80 trucks of meat, milk, vegetables, fruit, and rabbits reached Darling Harbour on. a certain day, and are now being delivered. Very little live stock is offering, but arrangements are being made to properly regulate the for the metropolis. Two vessels were loaaed with coal at Newcastle. There were 115 trucks of hay, straw, and chaff on hand at Alexandria one day last week* and as only 61 trucks were delivered, whilst 226 trucks have been advised to arrive, the loading of such traffic in the country districts has been limited for a few days. The executive of the Trades Hall Council conferred again with representatives of tiie various unions that are' likely to be involved should there be further extension of the Sydney strike to, Victoria. v
