Tbß Monowai, whioh is timed to sail at 7 p.m, to-day for East Coast and southern ports, will take the following passengers for Dunedin: —Miss Drewette, Nurse Ferguson, Mesdames Drewette, Murray, Messrs Mendelsohn, Murray, Jeilrys and son, Harding. The Wnnmera arrived here from Auckland, via porta, yesterday morning. She is expected to leave on her return trip tomorrow. The* Storm is due here to-day from Lyttelton, and is expected to sail again tonight for Timaru, Lyttelton, Picton, and Wanganoi. The Kaihmo, is expected to leave Auckland to-day for Westport to load coal for Auckland.

Several coastal boats were reported to be bar-bound at Greymouth on Saturday. The Monowai left Auckland, on Saturday for- Dunedin, via ports. She is expected here about Thursday. The Kamo, which arrived here on Saturday from Westport, will *go down to Port Chalmers to-day for survey. The Kakapo left Dunedin on Saturday for" Lyttelton and Wellington. Ten years ago the German steamship Sesostris drifted ashore on the 'sands of Ocos, on the coast of Guatemala. Her hull. and machinery were uninjured, and the enterprising townspeople used the latter for the purpose of lighting their town by electricity. Last year it was decided to salvage the ship, although grass was growing around her keel. After 10 months' hard work she was successfully floated, and sent ndrth under her own steam. She is now on the registry of the United States, and been rechristened the Frances L. Skinner.

The report and accounts of Burns, Philp, and Co. (Ltd.), for the 12 months ended March 31 last show that the gross profits for the year totalled £441,155, which com- .'<• pares with £394,514 in the previous year, < £352,141 two years ago, and £341,629 three .years ago. Salaries and general working expenses total £225.340, against £205.355, £166,294, and £158.664 respectively in the three previous years; £69,935 is set aside for depreciation and bad debts, against £74.719. £54.766, and £49,211, leaving, after adding £11.844 from last year, a net profit -of £157,725, as compared with £125,594. : The directors recommend" the payment of a dividend and bonus of 7£ per cent., against l\ per cent, in the previous year ; and b\ per cent, in 1914-15 and 1913-14, and the transfer of £57.500 to reserve and insurance funds, against £30.000 a year ago, leaving a balance of £11,470 to carry forward.
