"THE BATTLE OF THE ANCRE."
Tho National Committee of tho Y.M.C.A. has been entrusted by the Government with a series of battle pictures taken by tho operators of tho British War Office at tho fighting front. The first series ie announced for exhibition in His Majesty's Theatre on Saturday, 22nd inst. These films were recently shown in Christchurch and Wellington, and mado a marked impression, conveying as they do a viv : d reality of the terrors of war. Tho first series depicts "Tho Battle of the Ancre," of which the Christchureh Sun says:—"For vividness and reality, and exactitude of detail, tho war 'film, ' The Battle of the Ancre,' easily surpasses any Cinematograph pictures from the front previouslv soreonfd in this city. There has been really no film hitherto submitted that protended to cover the ground in such a thorough and complete manner as does the picture of the push on tho Ancro. It is perfectly safe to say that the large audiences which crowded tho building obtained a much clearer and more definite idea of tho conditions under which modern warfare is waged than tlicy could over hope to obtnin from the most brilliantly ►written descriptions. As incident after incident was unfolded the beholders had it impressed on them that they were looking on 'the. real thing.'"
