At Outram recently tho local committee of Dr Barnardo's Young Helpers' League entertained the children at a box-opening party, and a very happy evening was speßt. Tho box-opening yielded £7 12s constituting a record. Since tho formation of this branch in October, 1915, £29 12s has been forwarded to Dr Barnardo's Homes.
The regular meofctng of the Port Chalmons School Committee was held on Thursday evening; Mr J. M'Lachlan (chairman) presided. It wae resolved that permission bo granted for the children to contribute for ono month to the fund for the sufferers by the aerial raid at Home. The Education Board notified that -it could not see its way to comply with tho request for a drinking fountain for the school. The Visiting Committee reported having attended to some small repairs. Tho Rector reported that for tlio past five weeks the avcrago roll in tho Primary Department was 454-, and the average attendance 430. In the Secondary Department the average roll was 26, and the overage i attendance 24-. The attendance shield was won three times by Standard 111. with 97 per cent., 99 per cent., and 98 per cent., and twice by Standard "V., with 99 and 99 per cent. Miss Sinclair, having suffered severely in health, has been ordered by the doctor to cease work for somo time, and Mr Gordon Taylor (last year's dux) has been assisting very ■efliciontlv with work of Standard VII. The Rector reported with regret that Miss M'Callum was leaving. Messrs M'Lachlan and M'Donald were appointed a Visiting Committee for the month.
On Sunday tho first vicar of the parochial district of St. 'Kifda will be inducted -by tho Primate. This service will be followed by Choral Commimion, when the Prhnate will be the preacher. The now infant room will be opened at 6 p.m.. and in the evening the Rev. A. Wingfiidid will preach his first sermon. On Wednesday a welcome social will be tentered to Mr Wmgficld. A new chi'b for girls over 20 has been formed at the Y.W.0.A.. A "spring party" was held to inaugurate this venture, and proved a great success, a number of girls signifying their eagerness to join. Tho Maori name "Taruna" was chosen for the- club, which is to meet once a week for regular work and onco a month for social gatherings. The fourfold aim of the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and social development «f young women —is incorporated in tho programme of tho club. Tennis is beginning to create much enjoyment. The official opening of tho tennis and chibs will not take place for several weees, but the committee of each club has met to arrange the and practice will begin rmmediaiery. Tho Ramblers' Club, which has proved so popular during the winter, wiD continue to enjoy tke outmgs, which during tho warmer weather will be enhanced by parfcakiag of billy *tea. The Wintor Club and classes aro still in progress. A " Hwd-up Social" was enjoyed by the members of Every Girls' Club on Saturday, when there was a good attendance. The second term of the physical culturo class has just begun, and a marked improvement is shown in the carriage and general appearance of the girls who havo undergone the instruction.
