REVOCATION OF NATURALISATION.
TO THE EDITOR Sir,—Will you explain through your columns the object of our Government _in putting on the Statute Book the Revocation of Naturalisation Bill?—I am, etc., Gore, September 6. ■ G. W.
[The Revocation of Naturalisation Bill empowers the Governor-general in Council to declare that the naturalisation of any naturalised British subject shall be revoked, on the ground that this stop "is expedient for the welfare or defence of the realm or the peace and good government of Now Zealand or otherwise on grounds of public policy." The purpose of the measure is to enable the Government to render any naturalised person, who ie the subject of a State with which the Empire is now at war, liable to all the common-law disabilities of an alien enemy. It is a power which will not be exercised except in the cases where it is considered desirable, from the conduct of a naturalised subject., that he should be deprived of the privileges of British citizenship in a British community.—Ed. 0. D. T.]
— The "starch scare" in Great Britain appears to have been premature. As far as men's collars are concerned, it is now announced that there is sufficient starch in England to stiffen them for at leaet the next two months, and a certain proportion will be available for nurses' collar? and cuffs. The chemists attached to the Launderers' Association have succeeded in producing a stiffening which is said to be satisfactory and contains no 6tarch whatever. It is "being tried by five of the important laundrice in London, and, if it answers expectations, the substitute is to b3 put on the market.
