A sub-committee consisting of. the chairman, Messrs Roberts, Ross, and Ritchie was set up to report on the recommendation of Messrs Mason and Wales regarding retaining walls at tho new Medical School. The registrar having reported as to tho University's position in relafaon to the Leith wall, it was resolved that ho be instructed to inquire if Mr Tannock had correctly received Mr M'Curdy's message that the lilling-in behind the wall should bo carried to a height of 3ft above tho wall level. HOME SCIENCE DEPARTMENT. Professor Boys-Smith submitted the anrc P° rt . of the home science department ot the University. Tho following aro the outstanding clauses in it:—This year 43 students are taking cither the full degree or diploma, course, as against 32 on the roll last year. Four students are taking several courscs, as against three who were doing the same last year. Tho three students who gamed their 1 degree last year all scoured posts at once. Miss Timewell was appointed to Napier Girls' Hi-rh School, Miss Pigott to Blenheim, and Miss Rudall under the Auckland Education Board to the Whangarei district. Miss Tucker completed her diploma just before Christmas, and has been appointed to Woodford Ilouso School, Hawke's Bay. With our increasing numbers ivo are dreadfully handicapped' m our work by lack of spaccs and lack of equipment. The only way in which arrange the classes at present, is bv overflowing into the Mining School. But it is linpossiblo to givo proper needlework classes without sewing machines, with 'io arrangements for heating irons for pressing, and with no proper tables upon which to cut out. In regard to laundrywork, wo have only tho small wash-house and ironing room at Studtholme House, in which the house washing has to be done every week This is quite. inadequate for teaching a class of any size. It is difficult for even ci ht girls to bo taught properly, and I do not know what we shall do during tho preaching summer session. Of C our se ™ should all agree that it is not an oppoi'tuno moment to begin trying to raise money! it tho war docs not end this year, I think wo ought not to wait any longer, but should do our utmost to get £30(Vi gether,.so that we can sed/e the ment subsidy, and begin our buildings.
