ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
(Pee Ukjted Pbebs ArsociatiokJ t , i AUCKLAND, April 19. John Molir, aged 75 years, a recent arrival from Ngaraawahia, died suddenly after having dinner at the Metropolitan Hotol.
The Southland Times states that Joseph Taylor, who attempted to commit suicido at Hcddon' Bush last .Sunday by cutting Ins throat with a pocket-knife, . died in" the Southland Hospitalearly on Wednesday morning.
An unfortunate acoident happened on' Saturday night at the Lillburn Creak bridge, where a washout recently occurred, carrying aw-av tho approach (says tho Otautau Farmer). Robert Gore, a fencer on Wairoto Station, was leading a hack across tho temporary planks giving access to the brdge, when tho horse pulled back and precipitated him over the side. In his fall Mr Gore struck his log on a beam, inflicting a severe wound in the flesh above his knee" llie sufferer also got a severe shaking, as the fall was about 30ft. He lay stunned for some time, but was ultimately a;bie to crawl out, and, though unable to" walk, reached Wa : roto Station about 7 a.m. on Sunday. Dr Stewart ordnrrd the man's removal to the Riverton Hospital. A young man named Peter Thompson, aged 27 years, whoso parents live at Lochiel, 'but who has worked in the Invercargill district for some years, was admitted to tho Southland Hospital on Wednesday, suffering from-diphtheria, and died on Thursday.
