EMPIRE THEATRE
The star film in tho new programme presented at the Empire Theatre yesterday is tbo Fox film "Hypocrisy," the leading character in which is Virginia Trent. " The story chiefly concerns this young lady's mother, who as tho result of living beyond her means is faced with the acceptance of ono or two alternatives—viz., tho marriage of her daughter to a rich man or submit to utter ruin. Miss Trent has two suitors-, ono a Mr Warren Presbrv, a rich attorney, and the other Mr Tillet Hutchins, a railroad magnate. Tho latter is favoured by the mother, but Virginia accepts the attorney, who holds large stocks in a railroad concern m which Hutchins has a controlling interest. Virginia's husband becomes financially embarrassed through ' depreciated stocks. The disappointed suitor intrigues n ' lth , tne £ ir !' s mother for tho ruination pf the attorney. His schemes-start well, but as might bo expected, thoy eventually miscarry, and ho receives his deserts.
