PRESENTATIONS.

Sergeant Mathieson, who has been transferred to Wellington, w;ts last evening presented by members of the local police force with a handsomely mounted umbrella, and also one for Mrs Mathieson. Tho presentation was made by Sergeant Thomson, who briefly referred to the nigh esteem in which Sorgeant Mathieson was held. Sergeant Mathieson, it may bo mentioned, has seen about 15 years' service, and has been stationed in Dunedin on three different occasions Constable Finch, who goes to Wanganui, was at tho same time presented by Constable Lonnon, on behalf of tho men, with a suit caso and a case of pipes. Constable Finch has teen in tho force some five or six years. At a recent meeting of the George Street School Committee a presentation of an illuminated addrcs3 was made. to the Rev. I. K. M'lntyre, who had for nine years co-operated in' Bible teaching in the school, but who had to relinquish the work on account of resigning his charge as pastor of St. Stephen's Church. Tho presentation was mado bv the chairnm.i of tho committee (Mr R. Ferguson), who, along with other members of tho committee and Mr Patterson (the head master), spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr M'lntyro's faithful work on behalf of tho religious education of £Tie children. Mr M'lntyre appropriately responded, and expressed the great pleasure it. had been to him to havo tho privilege of entering the school to impart the teachings of tho Bible to the children. Ho said that ho had very highly appreciated the privilege. '11 ic address stated, inter alia, that ever sinco the classes had been held "Mr M'lntyre had taken the leading part in them, acting as convener and a teacher of one of them. The classes wore much appreciated by parents, and had been a thorough success, almost every eligible child in tho school attending.
