HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, held last .night, wae attended by Mr. J. H. Walker (chairman), Mrs Ferguson, Mrs Jackson, Mrs Gordon, Dr Brown, Messrs W. T. Talboys, J. Camming, R. Templeton, F. G. ! Cumming, C. N. Scurr, and W. E. S. Knight. J3OERESPONDENOE. Dr Valintine, Inspector-general, wrote conveying the Minister's satisfaction with the arrangements made by. the honorary medical staff lor the treatment of returned soldiers as out-patients. The Minister had also noted with satisfaction that the staff involved did not desire any payment for thair services in this connection. The department was prepared to pay for any additional massage work that might be required, »n«l also for any special apparatus, but before finally approving -would like to have further information on the subject. As regarded the question of military rauk being granted to members of the honorary staff engaged on military work, the matter had been referred to the Director-general of Medical Services. —The letter was received. ' ■ Dγ Valintine (Inspector-general) ivrot> stating that he hoped soon to have the opportunity of visiting Dunedin, when ho would discuss with the board the question of house surgeons.—The letter was received. Dr Watt wrote resigning his position as anaesthetist to the Hospital, as ho -wished to attend the University session.—Received. Miss E. H. Washer wrote resigning her position of honorary masseuse to the Cavereham Infirmary and assistant masseuse to the Hospital.—Received. A letter was received from, the town clerk, Kaitangata, enclosing a cheque for £60, being the balance of the amount of £200 promised by the late Mr Robert Lee towards the maintenance of a nurse at the cottage- hospit-il.—ln forwarding the amount Mr R. Leo stated that the boaid had allowed the Kaitangata Hosjjital to bo made more uso of-than was done in the past, and it was on that account that Mrs Lee (had agreed to make-the final payment.—Received with thanke. Mr M. Cohen, editor of the Dunedin Star, wrote stating that the sum of £500 had been collected through the medium of that journal for a motor ambulance, to be named in memory of Nurse Cevell. The money would be subsidised by the Government to the extent of 24s in the £. —The Chairman said the board was indebted to Mr Cohen for his action in this matter. The money would be of extreme service to suffering humanity, not only at present, but in tho future. —The matter was .referred- to a committee consisting of the chairmen _ of tho various committees, to confer with Mr Cohen. Dr CJhamptaloup, acting District Health Officer, wrote- stating, that 12 men ex Tahiti were being sent to the Hospital.—Received. Messrs Kempthorne, Prosser, and Co. wrote agreeing to continue tho supply of drugs for a further period of six months on the existing terms.—Received. The Secretary of tho Tuapeka Hospital Committee wrote advisjng that the Lawrence Borough Council recommended the appointment of Mr John Edio. as a cooperative member of t!he board, in place of Mr James Robertson, resigned.—The appointment was approved. Carswell, Dr W. P. Gowland; gynecologist, Dr Riley; assistant gynecologist, Dr North; ophthalmic surgeon, Dr H. L. Ferguson; two assistant ophthalmio surgeons— Dr A. J. Hall, Dr L. H. M'Bride; pathologist, Dr W. S. Roberts; physician for diseases of children, Dr E. H. Williams; stomatologist, Dr H. P. Pickerill; assistant ctental surgeon, Mr R. H. Barron; masseur, Mr D. E.
