(Peb United Pp.ess Association.) AUCKLAND, January 13. An embarrassment of the . freezing industry in the Auckland province is again threatened by the inadequate provision of shipping facilities. Though there are three works capable of producing 8000 carcases per day, space for only 215,000 carcases has been allotted to the district for the month. Urgent representations are being made to tho Overseas Shipping Committee 'with a view to securing an allocation in proportion to the district's requirements. WELLINGTON, January 13. A ballot of the Wellington branch' of tho Seamen's Union has been in progress for the combined positions of secretary of the Wellington branch and general secretary for New Zealand. Mr W. T. Young, the present secretary, is opposed by Mr G. H Powers, formerly a fireman on the Komata. The result will be declared next Monday. . The auxiliary scow Magic, after unloadinn- at Miramar, was blown away whilo getting under weigh for the city last evening, and grounded at the south end of Evan's Bay. She was got off again this morning by using her oil engines. The only damage was tho loss of one propeller blade.
