SPORTS AND PASTIMES QUEEN

Mife Belle M'Lean entertained the jnembers of the committee which laboured so hard under her banner during the Queen Carnival at a social at Hazel wood, Elder street, on Thursday night. About 150 gnoses were entertained,and the "queen's" father and mother—Sit George and Lady M'Lean— wero also present. In the course of the evening Mr 11. Conn, on behalf of the committee, presented Miss M'Lean with a diamond ring and an illuminated addvees, the cost of these being met by a special subscription from tho committeemen. The act dre9s, couched in very complimentary terms, referred to Miss M'Lean's public spirit, invariable tact, and her arduous and thankless work, which operated "as a driving force upon the committee." The treasurer's financial statement showed that tho committee started with £60 in hand towards expenses, £50 of this represented by Sir Geo. M'Lean's cheque. Raffles brought in £597 18s Id; badges, £88 2s 9d; different func-

tions (run by the ladies), ouch as processions, etc., £1518 13s; concerts, teas, etc., £438 16s 8d; bowling carnival, £505 18s > 4d; sports meetings, £271 4e 9d; donations, £6391 lis 3d; twopenny tickets, £387 9s lid; art union, £1756 14s 6d; —a total of £12,019 10s 6d. The expenditure was £562 18s 7d, leaving- the executive £11,430 Os 4d, with a small balance in hand to meet unforeseen expense & The only non-productive expenditure was £16 9s 2d.
