During a discussion of the Tamworth District Council of the Farmers and Settlers' Association, the following motion was brought forward :—" That in view of the reports that more recruits are offering than oould be equipped, Senator Peatce be asked to allow farmer recruits to return home for the harvest."

Mr Pankhurst suggested that a number of small farmers in New Zealand, where the harvest is later than in Australia, might be persuaded to come and help. The motion was carried.
