Tim Doolan made a °reat effort from the back of the field, but"was unable to catch the winner, who won by two lengths, with four lengths between Tim Doolan and Boorigal. Fireworks was last. GAMES ABANDONED IN WELLINGTON. (Pee United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 10. All outdoor games have been .abandoned owing to the rain.
GOLF. (Per United Press Association.) PALMERSTON N., July 9. The hon. secretary of the Ney Zealand Ladies' Golf Union advises that owing to the war it has "been decided to abandon the annual championship meeting, which was to have been held in Auckland during September.

Mr J. H. Tompkins has been reappointed starter to the Oamaru Trotting Club, while Mr F. C. Thomns has rec-er.ed the appointment of handicappcr to the same club. A private cable message received on Thursday (says the Press) stated that Mr Gerald Stead's horse, The Pole, hid -won another jumping race in .Melbourne on Wednesday. This would bo the Kensington Steeplechusi, of 300sovs, about two miles, which figured on the second day's programme of the V.R.C. Steeplechase meeting.
The Daily Mail of May 22 devotes a paragraph to Trooper R. G. Warren, who travelled 13,000 miles from Neiv Zealand to cnHst in the Home forces. It states: "As a member of the Wellington East Coast Rifles, he was unsuccessful in tho ballot for a place in the New Zealand contingent. He his worked his passage Home, saving £50 in fare, and getting a cheque for £13 for services. He has now received a commission in tho Highland Divisional Train Army Service Corps. Four of - his uncles and three cousins arc serving in the army and navy.''
Mr Dan Thomas, the vaudeville performer, now appearing at His Majesty*'! Theatre, Wellington, has collected £50 during one week's singing nightly an appeal for the Wounded Soldiers' Fund (says t.he New Zealand Times). Mr Thomas has undertaken to raise £1000 in New Zealand and Australia for the wounded men.
