(P«b Unitkd Pbess Association.) AUCKLAND, April 2. Heavy rain has fallen almost throughout the day, and completely spoilt the holiday. About had fallen up.till three o'clock and it is understood that several shop cellars have suffered by storm water. In a cellar belonging to a picture framer damage to the extent of about £145 has been done.
WELLINGTON, April 2. Heaivy wind and a downpour of Tain this morning made, things unpleasant for those contemplating outings, but by midday the weather had cleared up, and the afternoon was fine but breezy. The morning's showers caused the postponement of the provincial tennis championship meeting, but the local bowling centre s pairs tournament was started in the afternoon. Otherwise the day passed quietly. The Bay View Tea Rooms at Lyall Bay, whidh were destroyed by fire last night weTe insured with the New Zealand Company for £500, and the contents for £235 in the United office.
The vital statistics for the past month are as follow, those for March, 1914, being given in parentheses :—Births, 190 (108); deaths, 74 (72); marriages, 102 (90). The figures for this year and last year arenas follow: —Births, 545 (436); deaths, 196 (211); marriages, 265 (267).
