AUCKLAND, April L Mr Frazer (coroner) held an inquest on tlie 14-monthsnold baby Wilfred Enwright, and returned a verdict that death was duo to poisoning by caustic soda, which the child had accidentally shaken on to the cake of soap and then eaten the soap. AUCKLAND, April 2. Word has been received that two men have been drowned on an arm of Manukau Harbouir, near Ota'huhu. No particulars of the accident or the names of the victims are available. A search for the bodies is proceeding. Mr Samuel Davies, aged 49 years, residing at 30 Broughton street, South Dunedin, died suddenly last evening. Tho deceased was a turner, employed •at the Hillside Workshops, and left his home yesterday afternoon to visit his brother, who lent him his. motor cycle to return home. Whilst ho was putting the cyclo away in an outhouse he was oonversing with his son, apparently in good health, when he dropped on the floor and expired' almost immediatelv. Dr Carswell was summoned, but oould only pronounce life to •be extinct. Sergettnt O'Connell had the body removed to the morgue, where an inquest will bo held this afternoon. Mrs Mair, a passenger by .the second express from Invercargill yesterday, died suddenly before the train"reached Balclutha. Deceased was travelling with her daughter on a holiday -visit to Timaru. Tho body was removed from the "train at Balclutha. Mr John Brown, of Pitt street, mot with a '-nasty accident on Tuesday evening. He was riding along the Main South road about 9 o'clotok. when a'motor oar ran into his horse, .with the result that Mr Brown was thrown, and somewhat severoly injured. It appears that the driver of the car was attempting to avoid a pedestrian, and did not notice tho horseman ahead.
