A man named Raymond Swoboda waa arrested. Incriminating documents in his possession show that his mission was to blow up the s.s. La Touraine, on which he was a passenger. He represented himself as a Russian from Paris, where he had been in long residence. > PETROL BOMBS. THEIR USE BY GERMANS. LONDON, March 31. A doctor serving with the field artillery confirms the German use of petrol bombs. He says: Most of the men in one section of .our trenches were burned to death, anc in some of the storming parties at Nenv*», ChapeUe not a single officer or man wa» left alive.
A LONELY SOLDIER. INUNDATED WITH CORRESPONDENCE.' (Times and Sydney Sun Services.) LONDON, March 31. The Postmaster-general states that he daily sends 40,000 letters and 50,000 parcels to the front. A lonely soldier at the front advertised inviting correspondence. Three days later he received 3000 letters, 6 bags of small parcels, and 90 large ones. BRITISH TREASURY BILLS. LONDON, March 31. The sum of £37,974,000 was subscribed for the last issue of Treasury bills, at an average discount of £2 13s lid. BRITISH CASUALTIES FOR MARCH. LONDON, April 1. The British casualty lists for March comprised 1081 officers "and 18,794 men; of whom 390 officers and 4498 men are dead, 20*4 -en are missing, and 3232 are prisoners.
