PROFESSIONAL CONTEST. M'OUARIUE BEAT* MATIIFAVSON. There was a lnrge a I tendance in the Garrison Hall last, night to witness a professional Inning contest lx-twcen Paul M'Owirrie (Bluff) and George Malhowsrm (Duuediu) for a purse of £50. Cooper doing most of the leading in the first; two rounds, in the third lound Boreham scored freely. In the next round, however. Cooper opened well, and connected with lefts to the face and rights to the body, lie also missed badly at times, and Boreham got, home with a light left to the head, hi tho fifth round Cooper increased his lead, and landed a number of telling punches. Boreham was the aggressor when the last round commenced, and he mixed it freely, and scored a fair number of points; but he was unable to make, up tho leeway, and Cooper wim declared tho winner amid loud applause. Boreham was cheered as he left the ring.

The next bout, was that between Facoory and Torrie. In the first round Facoory opened with a left and right, to Torrie's face. Torrie. however, equalised mutters with heavy blows to the body, one of which sent 7'\a:;o:'iry down for eight seconds. The end came in the second round, when Torrie, with a right swing to the stomach, which, from the press table, appeared to be on the low side, sent Facoory down for tho count. PROFESSIONAL MATCH. P. M'Quarrie shortly afterwards ripped his left to the body, and Mathewson got home with a left to the face, and immediately followed up and crossed his right to. M'Quarrie's point, but the blow appeared to have lost its sting when it landed. Mathcwson opened lively in the third round, and scored with blows to the head and body. M'Quarrie rushed Mathcwson, but the latter back-moved beautifully, and thus escaped danger which was obviously threatening. M'Quarrie came in with a strong right, which Mathcwson got inside, and M'Quarrie, as if to make amends for this failure, got in two or thveo left half arm jolts. Mathcwson shot his left oi*t, and' it connected twice with M'Quarrie's face. M'Qurirric missed badly with a right, hook, -nd he tlKn tried +o make amends by sending in a left, which" Mathcwson buck movixl, and then countered with a stinging left which landed on M'Quarrie's face. At the commencement of the sixth encounter Mathewson dodged a wild swing from M'Quarrie, and then sent left and right to the face, and a little later his left landed hard on M'Quarrie's fa.ee. A good deal cf clineihng ensued for the remainder of the round. They rushed into a clinch at the opening of the seventh round, and on separating M'Quarrie got Mathewson a trifle low. which made him wince perceptibly. . M'Quarrie missed with a hard right to the head, and then rushed Mathcwson to tho ropes, whore they clinched. Mathcwson next scored with lefts to the head, this beintj his favourite blow right through. M'Quarrio again rushed, but Mathcwson got out of threatening danger. Mathewson got inside a left swing from M'Quarrie, and countered with a left to the face, and they clinched. At tho beginning of the eighth round' M'Q'iarrie jibbed Mathewson as thev broke, ami then stepped, airily away from a vicious punch which tho local man sent, in. M'Quarrio tfien got his left, home to the face. Mathewson scored with a hard lcift to tho face, and went in to do things. but M'Quarrio clinched. M'Quarrie missed with a right to the head, and a. couple of seconds later he again failed to connect with a right uppercut, and Mathewson then got him with a good left. M'Quarrie got his right to the stomach at tho opening of the ninth round, and then they both mixed, there being exchanges to the head and body. Honours were oven in this round when _ the gong sounded. Mathewson 'looked tired as he came up for tho tenth round, and M'Quarrie appeared keen, and came in, obviously looking for a knock out Mathewson, however, scored with a left to tho head, and followed with a telling right uppercut and left out to the stomach, M'Quarrie getting a left to tho head.
